Abseiling ...if you dare!

Abseiling is about being in control. Not a sport in its own right, abseiling is a technique used in mountaineering to safely get down difficult ground by using ropes and other mountaineering equipment.

The most important factor in abseiling is safety. When you abseil, you are held by two separate ropes. One controlled by you, one by the instructor at the top.

No-one will tell you abseiling is easy, buts that is the whole point! Challenge! The hardest part of absieling is leaning back at the top. Once you have done this, you just need to control you own speed using the equipment, and keep going. The thing everybody says when they get down is, "I want to do it again!"

Questions?

Q. I'm scared of heights, can I do it?
A. Yes! The challenge for you will be overcoming your fear. If you believe in yourself, you can do anything.

Q. Are the ropes strong enough?
A. Yes! All of our ropes are designed to hold much heavier loads than a persons weight. All ropes, harnesses and other equipment are checked regularly.

Q. I'm afraid I might let go!
A. Don't worry! When you absiel, you will be held by your instructor at all times!

Q. What if I can't do it?
A. The important thing is that you try. That's what counts, that's the achievement.
