Rock Climbing

At Maes y lade, for most of the year, we climb on real rock. During the winter we occasionally use an indoor rope centre, and this too is real rock!

Climbing is about achievement. To us, it does not matter if you don't get to the top, only that you try. Climbing is also about working together. It is often surprising what you can do with the help and support of your friends or colleagues.

All safety equipment for rock climbing is provided. This includes ropes, helmets, harnesses and other equipment to ensure that you experience is safe as well as adventurous.

Questions?

Q. I am scared of heights, can I still climb?
A. YES! Many people are scared of heights! All you can do is try your best - challenge yourself! Nobody will force you to do anything you are not capable of. Your Instructor, and you friends will be there to give you all the help and support you need.

Q. What if I fall of?
A. We always use ropes and other equipment to make sure nobody can fall.

Q. I really like climbing, where can I do some more?
A. Many leisure centres have climbing walls. Most climbing walls have clubs or times when young people can climb under supervision. Ask at your local leisure centre or climbing wall. Essex groups can make use of the facilities provided by the Outdoor Centres. (See our links page for more details)
