Introductory White Water

This Weekend course is for competent flat water paddler who wish to improve their skill level and gain experience of paddling on moving water. Our qualified staff will introduce skills and techniques appropriate to your needs and abilities, whilst working to ensure your safety throughout the course.

 

 

 

Intermediate White Water

This 2 day course is designed for interested parties who have some white water experience to improve their skills in an area that has an abundance of white water rivers immediate to the centre. Highly qualified and experienced Instructors who will be sympathetic to your needs and will always have safety at the forefront of their minds will be working with you on the course.

 

 

Four Star Canoe/Kayak Training/Assessment

Course

This course is aimed for individuals that already hold their 3* award and wish to progress onto the 4* award. This award is also a prerequisite for the Level 3 Coach in the relevant discipline.

The course will consist of a days training in either Kayak or Canoe and an assessment day on the second day for course members who request it. For course members who wish not to be assessed there will be an opportunity to receive a further days training in either Kayak or Canoe.

Venue

The local rivers of the Usk and Wye Valleys, make an ideal venue for a course of this type.

 

Level 3 Coach Open Canoe/Kayak Training/Assessment

This course is for candidates who are interested in progressing through the coaching scheme and who already have the prerequisites for the relevant course. i.e..

Training:

  • Hold relevant 4 star test.
  • Hold a current first aid certificate.
  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • Hold level 2 coach award in relevant discipline.
  • Be a comprehensive member of the BCU/WCA
  • Hold a completed C2 form.

Assessment:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have attended a level 3 coach training course and hold a completed C2 form.
  • Hold a current first aid certificate.
  • Have gained a minimum of 30 hours training experience since Level 3 training course.
  • Hold the relevant safety test.

 

Five star Training/Assessment Open Canoe

This award marks the top level of performance in leadership in advanced situations and personal skills. It is an award for those wishing to lead groups on advanced river journeys, or remote and exposed waters, and is a pre-requisite for the level 4 coach award.

Pre-requisites:

Training

  • Competence on grade 3+ water.
  • Hold the appropriate 4 star award.

Assesment

  • Three days logged experience of formal training in leadership, safety and rescue.
  • Hold the appropriate 4 star award.
  • Hold a first aid award.
  • Provide evidence of a range of trips including grade 3-4 rivers and exposed water over a period of three years (minimum). Your white water experience should show a bias toward 'wild rivers'.
